Networks and Collaborations

Fraunhofer institutes often work closely together to exploit their combined expertise. This enables the latest scientific knowledge from different areas to be utilized for joint projects and developments.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging is a member of the following Fraunhofer Groups and Initiatives:

High-Performance Center "Secure Intelligent Systems" LZSiS

In the High Performance Center  "Secure Intelligent Systems" LZSiS, 6 Fraunhofer institutes have joined forces with the Technical University of Munich and the University of the Federal Armed Forces Munich. The bundled competencies make it possible to accompany the digital transformation processes in all phases - from the idea to the conception to the implementation of new business models and digital process chains. Particular attention is paid to the security of the system solutions, also for SMEs.

Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Circular Plastics Economy CCPE

In the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Circular Plastics Economy"CCPE®, six Fraunhofer institutes work together in a virtual institute. The aim of the cluster is to transform the plastics economy, which until now has been predominantly linear, into a circular economy. Therefore, research is conducted along the entire life cycle of plastic products on systemic, technical and also social innovations.

Fraunhofer Innovation Cluster "Production for Intelligent Medicine"

New development and production technologies for innovative cell and gene therapeutics and vaccines are the research task of the Innovation Cluster »Production for Intelligent Medicine«. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft brings together the expertise of 23 Fraunhofer institutes and combines the biological and medical know-how of the institutes with expertise in automation technologies and the autonomous control of industrial processes.

Fraunhofer Group for Resource Technologies and Bioeconomy

Climate change and dwindling resources coupled with a growing world population are challenges that demand new, sustainable value creation. In the Fraunhofer Group for Resource Technologies and Bioeconomy, four Fraunhofer institutes are pursuing the goal of developing technological, process engineering, circular and systemic solutions - for responsible management of natural resources and their use. These include the supply of raw materials and energy, climate and environmental protection, and ensuring nutrition and health.

Fraunhofer Big Data Alliance

The Fraunhofer Big Data Alliance is made up of 29 separate institutes harnessing their expertise across all sectors. Fraunhofer experts not only help companies develop big data strategies, software packages and data protected big data systems but they also train specialists and managerial staff to become »data scientists«.

Fraunhofer Agriculture and Food Industry Alliance

Rising food prices, resource scarcity, fragile supply chains and much more pose major challenges for companies in the global food industry. 13 Fraunhofer institutes are conducting research along the entire value chain to support companies in their transformation toward a sustainable food supply. New developments and solutions are intended to help leverage the as yet untapped potential and increase the development opportunities for this sector.

Fraunhofer POLO®

Fraunhofer POLO® brings together the individual expertise of seven Fraunhofer institutes in order to develop innovative concepts, technologies, and materials for the functionalization of polymer surfaces.

Fraunhofer Nanotechnology FNT

The Fraunhofer Nanotechnology FNT focuses on the following core areas: nanomaterials, nanobiotechnology, nanooptics and nanoelectronics. In addition, the alliance addresses toxicity issues, the safe handling of nanomaterials and advises potential users.

Fraunhofer Business Area Cleaning

The Fraunhofer Business Area Cleaning unites the competences of nine Fraunhofer institutes. The cooperative objective is the industrial cleaning of surfaces along the whole process chain.

Fraunhofer Lead Market Chemical Industry

In the Fraunhofer Lead Market Chemical Industry, 15 Fraunhofer Iinstitutes cooperate with the chemical industry to advance the industrial implementation of innovative technologies.
