Spotlight on AI-powered knowledge management
At this year's Fraunhofer annual assembly in Leipzig, Institute Director Prof. Dr. Jens Majschak presented an AI-powered knowledge management system developed at Fraunhofer IVV. The solution supports companies in capturing, preserving and sharing operational know-how, ensuring that valuable experience-based knowledge remains available to employees whenever it is needed. From small and medium-sized craft businesses to international packaging machinery manufacturers, companies can use the system to structure existing knowledge and make relevant information accessible across the organization.
Connecting knowledge in mechanical engineering
Dresden-based company Theegarten-Pactec GmbH & Co. KG is applying Fraunhofer IVV’s knowledge management solution to connect and manage knowledge across service, development and production. As a leading manufacturer of packaging machinery for confectionery products, the company uses the technology to ensure fast access to relevant expert knowledge – particularly when commissioning, maintaining and further developing complex machinery deployed worldwide.
A key advantage of the solution is data sovereignty: valuable company knowledge remains on the organization’s own servers and is not transferred to external cloud environments. Managing Director Dr. Egbert Röhm, who also attended the Fraunhofer annual assembly, sees significant potential in the growing pool of interconnected corporate knowledge – from more efficient service processes to the development of future generations of machinery. He also emphasized the importance of secure handling of corporate data and knowledge for the future competitiveness of German and European companies.
Following the presentation, Prof. Dr. Jens Majschak and Dr. Egbert Röhm joined representatives from business and politics on the panel discussion “Innovation. Growth. Future. – Saxony’s Impulse for Germany’s Economy” to discuss digitalization as one of the key drivers for German economy.
In addition to the knowledge management system, Fraunhofer institutes presented further applications in the fields of energy technologies, robotics, microelectronics, biotechnology and healthcare.
Prof. Dr. Heike Graßmann, State Secretary at the Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism, highlighted the importance of successful transfer projects for strengthening Saxony and Germany as location of innovation and industry.
