Official opening of the Fraunhofer Project Center in Brazil

The Fraunhofer Project Center for Innovations in Food and Bioresources at ITAL in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, was officially opened on 5 November 2014. This new facility means that the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV and the Instituto de Tecnologia de Alimentos ITAL (Brazilian Institute of Food Technology) now have a shared building for carrying out their collaborative R&D work.

This is a further milestone in the development of innovative products and processes for the food and packaging industries.The Fraunhofer IVV and ITAL aim to support small and medium-sized businesses in Germany and Brazil by opening up new markets for them.

Guests at the official opening included Monika Bergamaschi (Secretary of Agriculture and Food Supply of the State of São Paulo), Friedrich Däuble (Consul General of Germany in São Paulo), and Orlando Melo de Castro (Director of the Association for Technology in Agribusiness (APTA) in São Paulo).

A tour of the Fraunhofer Project Center gave the guests the opportunity to see the new building and to taste the first products of the German-Brazilian collaboration, which included muffins containing sunflower protein. Thereafter Dr. Luis Madi, Director of ITAL, invited the guests to a brunch.
