Profile

The Fraunhofer IVV works in the field of packaging, food technology, regenerative raw materials and environmental technology. Research in the food sector includes the analysis of functional properties of packaging and consumer articles, sensory analysis and trace analyses in foodstuff and packaging. A variety of mass spectrometers is available for analytical purposes.

The institute owns the following MS instrumentation:

2 high resolution GC-MS:

  • Thermo MAT95 S, double focusing high resolution instrument for EI and CI technique, coupled GC, also direct probe inlet
  • Finnigan MAT 95 XL, double focusing high resolution instrument for EI and CI technique, coupled with GC, also with direct probe inlet and Gerstel KAS, dedicated for dioxin analysis

1 triple quad GC-MS:

  • Thermo Finnigan TSQ7000, CI capable, coupled to GC and Gerstel KAS

4 iontrap GC-MS:

  • Finnigan GCQ, both MSn and CI capable, coupled to GC
  • Thermo ITQ1100, both MSn and CI capable, coupled to GC
  • Varian Saturn 2200, both MSn and CI capable, coupled to GCxGC, with sniffing port for sensory analysis
  • Agilent 220 Series Ion-Trap, both MSn and CI capable, coupled to GCxGC, with sniffing port for sensory analysis

11 single quad GC-MS:

  • Thermo Finnigan SSQ7000, CI capable, coupled to GC
  • 2 Thermo DSQ II, coupled to GC with P&T, thermodesorber and/or SPME instrumentation, one instrument with sniffing port for sensory analysis
  • 3 Shimadzu QP-5000, coupled to GC, one with pyrolysator PYR4A
  • 1 Shimadzu QP-5050, coupled to GC with SPME autosampler
  • 2 Shimadzu QP-2010ultra, CI capable, coupled to GC with SSL and PTV
  • Shimadzu QP-2010plus, coupled to headspace-trap-GC
  • HP MSD, coupled to GC with headspace sampler
  • PerkinElmer Clarus 600C, CI capable, coupled to GC with headspace trap sampler

9 HPLC-MS:

  • 2 triple quad HPLC-MS Thermo TSQ Quantum AM, with heated ESI, ACPI and APPI source, acccurate mass option, coupled to HPLC
  • 1 triple quad UHPLC-MS Thermo TSQ Quantum Access Max, with heated ESI, APCI and APPI source, coupled to HPLC, DESI interface is available
  • 1 triple quad HPLC-MS Thermo TSQ Quantum, with heated ESI, ACPI and APPI source, coupled to HPLC
  • 1 linear trap HPLC-MS Thermo LTQ, MSn capable, with heated ESI and APCI source, coupled to HPLC
  • 1 iontrap HPLC-MS Thermo LCQ Deca, MSn capable, with ESI and APCI source, coupled to HPLC
  • 1 triple quad HPLC-MS Waters Quattro LC, with ESI Z-Spray source, dedicated for analysis of perflourinated compounds
  • 1 Q-TOF UHPLC-MS Waters Q-TOF Ultima, with ESI Z-Spray source, for high resolution measurements
  • 1 Q-TOF UHPLC-MS Waters Synapt G2Si, with ESI, APCI and APPI Z-Spray source, for high resolution measurements (R > 50.000), ASAP source and APGC coupling technique for gas chromatograpy

  • 2 PTR-MS (Proton Transfer Reaction Mass Spectrometry) instruments by Ionicon Analytik
  • Sensi-TOF (Time of Flight mass spectrometer) from HKR for PET-Sniffing
