On August 1, 2025, Prof. Büttner will take over as chair of Fraunhofer VRB, which currently comprises four Fraunhofer core institutes (IGB, IME, UMSICHT, IVV) and two guest institutes (IAP, IWKS). The institutes work closely together to develop circular, biotechnological and systemic solutions for raw material and energy supply, climate and environmental protection and food and health security.

Andrea Buettner - Head of Fraunhofer IVV

With her many years of expertise in the areas of sustainability, product safety, consumer acceptance and consumer protection, Prof. Büttner attaches particular importance to strategically aligning the association with people's needs and daily requirements. More than ever, she sees the need to focus on strengthening resilience and sovereignty in the strategic management of Germany and Europe:

“The management of our fundamental resources, such as water, food and everyday products, will require even more foresight in the future. To achieve this, we need a systematic and strategic approach to future scenarios and the development of new, circular action strategies based increasingly on renewable raw materials.”

Helping to shape this transformation as a strong cooperative structure continues to be the task and mission of the Fraunhofer Resource Technologies and Bioeconomy Group.
