Virtual cleaning assistant for manual cleaning

RESEARCH PROJECT

CleanAssist

Challenges

  • Significant variations in quality in manual cleaning processes
  • Lack of transparency in manual cleaning workflows (e.g., flow rates, contact times)
  • Product quality-compromising errors due to improper cleaning
  • Time-consuming and incomplete documentation for audits and quality assurance

Research results

  • Development of a tracking solution for cleaning monitoring
  • Visualization of cleaning performance in the digital twin
  • Appropriate data processing and documentation

Benefits

  • Reliable and reproducible cleaning quality
  • Complete documentation and audit compliance
  • Optimized cleaning workflows and reduced time investment
  • Sustainable training and reduced staff workload
  • Prevention of inadequate or incomplete cleaning

Automated quality assurance for manual cleaning processes

Manual cleaning processes are indispensable – yet they are subject to significant quality variations and pose substantial risks to product quality, process safety, and compliance. "CleanAssist" is a virtual cleaning assistant that, for the first time, standardizes, monitors, validates, and comprehensively documents manual cleaning operations.

Lance tracking for reproducible cleaning results

To ensure a safe and reproducible cleaning process, even for manual spray cleaning operations, the "CleanAssist" project developed a sensor-monitored cleaning lance. The sensor technology integrated onto the lance and the tracking technology positioned in the environment enable, for the first time, complete documentation of manual cleaning. All relevant process parameters and cleaned areas are recorded, and cleaning performance is automatically captured.

Digital twin and operator guidance

After the process parameters and position data of the spray lance are transferred, a digital twin of the environment to be cleaned and the machinery within it is created. This digital twin actively supports operators during the cleaning process. They receive direct feedback – for example visual or haptic – regarding whether all target parameters are being met.

"CleanAssist" enables you to perform cleaning in a targeted and efficient manner and select the appropriate cleaning procedure. This ensures that with every cleaning operation, at every location, the flow rates, intensities, and contact times precisely match the required parameters.

Automated documentation and training for manual spray cleaning processes

With "CleanAssist", reliable cleaning validation is achieved through comprehensive data processing and complete, location-based documentation of your industrial cleaning processes. The system supports you in strategically optimizing cleaning workflows and preventing product quality-compromising errors due to inadequate cleaning.

Simultaneously, "CleanAssist" enables your cleaning staff to benefit from sustainable training with specially designed training exercises for enhanced safety and efficiency in their daily work.
