Due to the hormonal effects, endocrine disruptor activities and its possibly reproductive toxicity, Bisphenol A (BPA) was identified as substance of very high concern (SVHC) and is still a high-priority subject.
The European Union has tightened regulations on BPA through Regulation (EU) No 2024/3190 amending the European Plastics Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 and has enacted a ban on the intentional use of Bisphenol A and other bisphenols or bisphenol derivatives in defined food contact materials. The regulation entered into force in December 2024.
The scope of application in food contact materials includes not only polycarbonate plastics, printing inks, adhesives, and coatings made of epoxy resins but could also apply to other products. Please contact us for more information!
Commission Regulation (EU) No 2024/3190 demands for a detection limit of at least 1 µg/kg. In line with these regulatory requirements, Fraunhofer IVV offers highly sensitive and selective LC-MS/MS analyses for Bisphenol A, Bisphenol S, and Bisphenol F in food simulants and food contact materials (limit of detection typically in the range of 0.1 µg/kg). We support the analytical process from the initial inquiry up to a comprehensive documentation in the form of a test report, including a food regulatory assessment.
